Ford F-150 (2004-2014)

This should come as no surprise. The F-150 is the best-selling truck on the planet, with over 40 million produced. That means that replacement parts are easy to come by and used models are a dime-a-dozen. The ’04 to ’14 year range includes many of the great features found on newer models without the large price tag.

Chevy Colorado (2004-2012)

Like the Ford Ranger, the Chevy Colorado is a midsize pickup truck with basic four-cylinder engine and a more powerful option. In this case it’s a five-cylinder one. We chose it over the Ranger here due to its cheaper average price and its configuration options. They can be bought in with two different bed lengths and three different cabs.

Dodge Ram (2002-2008)

While everyone talks up the new RAM 1500 trucks, the older ones are just as good. Ram models produced between ’02 and ’08 came with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that pumped out 390 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. That’s way more than enough to pull your boat or shanty out to the lake.

Toyota Tundra (2003-2014)

Yeah, you read that right. Not the Tacoma, but the Tundra. You can get them in both V6 and V8 versions, depending on your preference. Both engines are surprisingly fuel efficient as well. And don’t forget that legendary Toyota reliability. There’s a reason that people describe older Toyota trucks as “bulletproof.”
